An article examined issues relating to public and private pensions for individuals from some of the major minority-ethnic groups. A belief in the need for retirement planning was held by respondents of all backgrounds. There was a widespread view that the state pension should be increased to a more adequate level, and concern among some respondents that they would be unable to receive retirement income from pension schemes if they were to retire in another country. More widespread information about retirement planning was needed in minority-ethnic media.

A report examined why minority-ethnic women as a group experienced considerably higher rates of poverty than white women. It looked at household dynamics, moving beyond paid employment as a panacea for poverty; and at how women's lives changed over their lifetimes.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the admissions criteria of the Jewish Free School (in London) were in breach of the Race Relations Act 1976. The qualification for admission to the school was a test of ethnicity and not religion, and therefore the school had discriminated on racial grounds in its admissions.

An article said that non-white people in England and Wales were likely to be educationally and occupationally disadvantaged because of their skin colour or religious background. The direction and strength of the influence appeared to be dependent on whether the specific culture involved was seen as compatible or 'alien' in relation to the hegemonic culture.

A report examined how and why child poverty varied across ethnic groups, drawing on data from 2002 to 2007. It focused on the extent to which minority-ethnic children's poverty could be understood in terms of recognized risk factors that policy was already concerned to address, such as the high poverty rates among lone parent families.

An article examined differences in socio-economic position between ethnic groups. Education appeared to be an effective variable for measuring variation in socio-economic position across ethnic groups: but the ability to account for differences might be improved by the addition of car and home ownership, ability to obtain £10,000, loaning money to family/friends, and income from employment/self employment.
